What are Gobi desert agates/stones?
Gobi Desert Agates are a type of agate that is found in the Gobi Desert, which spans across northern and northwestern China and southern Mongolia.
How are they formed?
There used to be an ocean in now Gobi desert and there was an active volcano under the sea. The volcanic lava eruped and felled into the cold sea, these lava formed many kind of minerals and some dissolving into a mineral-rich suspension which changes the chemical composition of the lava, and the plate of the area under compression, resulting in the growth of so many kind of Gobi stones/agates. And when the sea was dried, these giant amount of minerals exposed in the sun, polished in the strong winds during a very long time in the desert.
They achieves this lustrous sheen from being tumbled across the desert sands of Mongolia, polished and pigmented by the incredibly strong winds there. Every piece is different – its own unique creation for us to behold. Some are a deep rust color, some a tawny beige, others a blue hue, and yet others creamy tan with flowing ivory striations.
There are a wide variety of Gobi agates, including sugar heart agate, old skin stone, jinmai agate, eye agate/stone and Xinjiang agate etc.
Welcome you to enjoy the beauty of these amazing Gobi agates.
